| Tachi Kanna (scraper plane) is used for conditioning the sole of a plane. It is
also useful for scraping any hardwood. The blade is skewed and set at 90 degrees
to the sole. Kiwa Tachi Kanna - picture at left - has the blade angled to the
left edge of the block, allowing it to be used as both scraper plane and rabbet
plane. Laminated white steel in a Japanese white oak block. |
